Eco Friendly Facades stunning refurbishment.

Eco Friendly Facades recently paired up with its sister company Eco Friendly Tiles to complete the refurbishment of an office space in Clerkenwell. The architects on the project were wanting a facade that would meld seamlessly in with the surrounding industrial style buildings, while still providing a long lasting, hard wearing cladding for the project. When Eco Friendly Facades was approached, we were able to supply a wide selection of styles from smooth polished marble, to dark charcoal stone look. In keeping with its industrial surrounds, the refurbishment of this office space opted for a dark grey, weathered concrete look and corten steel look for its facade.

The bulk of the exterior was clad in Eco Friendly Facades ECP 003, a dark grey, textured concrete look porcelain slab. To look at it, you would never guess that the exterior of this incredible build was a mere 12mm thick, yet harder than steel and resistant to heat, frost, graffiti and chemicals. It’s able to be secured through a variety of methods including chemically or mechanically fixing. So while a major build may not be able to plant a small forest, they can do their part for the environment by cladding their project in Eco Friendly Facades, not a bad feat for a porcelain slab.

The main doorway of the building took a step away from the concrete style and was instead clad in a rustic, corten steel look panel. Eco Friendly Facades ECP 039 creates an eye-catching entrance way with its sharp contrast of brownish orange against the deep grey of the rest of the build. Upon closer inspection, one would be hard pressed to tell the difference between our panel and real corten steel. However the beauty of our product is that it is long lasting, harder than steel and will not fade or warp for up to 60 years after installation. This impressive panel also aides in a smooth transition from exterior to interior. Guiding customers cleanly through to the reception area where the same panel can be found gracing the wall behind the reception desk. The system used to secure the panels was a ventilated rain screen or concealed mechanical anchor. CWCT tested, this system is suitable for an extensive range of buildings and locations. It’s lightweight (approximately 30kg/m2) reduces load on framework and foundations and also makes it easier to install. Some of the advantages of this system are the ability to install it on site or unitised, aiding to an even quicker installation. The final product presents a uniform, unbroken facade due to the hidden anchor points and changing or fixing an individual panel is a breeze. There is also a variety of cornering options that can be applied when using this system. On this particular build, the client opted for the bird’s beak cornering with the added detailing of a light strip.
